Mike Ostman

Coach

Mike grew up in Saint Michael Minnesota playing any sport available, mainly basketball, soccer, and tennis. Never one to be in the weight room (which is ironic because now all he wants to do is back squat), he preferred simply playing pick-up basketball as his normal workout routine. After dabbling with playing basketball at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Mike discovered ultimate Frisbee and played that competitively through college.

After moving around the country and ending up in Texas in 2014, Mike was over 300 pounds with high blood pressure and stumbled upon a CrossFit documentary on Netflix and eventually found his way into CrossFit Exponent in Edinburg, Texas where his now obsession with CrossFit began.

After moving back to Minnesota in 2017 he joined CrossFit Warrior Risen in Winona, where he eventually became head coach and general manager until he moved to the Twin Cities and joined the COL family full-time in January 2023. In 2019, Mike started giving back to the CrossFit community that has given him so much and began volunteering at events, starting on the scoring team at the 2019 Rogue Invitational, and eventually becoming a judge at CF sanctionals and CF semifinal events.

Outside of the gym, Mike works for Framework Events, a sports event company based in the Twin Cities where he helps plan the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix and all USA Weightlifting National Events. He also has been a sports event announcer for fun since 2009 and now travels and emcees CrossFit competitions around the country. He also enjoys doing absolutely nothing at all, checking out breweries, and spending time with his pup Kelso.
