Starting November 1st at 11:15 am CrossFit City of Lakes will be partnering with “The Phoenix”, a national sober active community. The Phoenix’s mission is to build a sober active community that fuels resilience and harnesses the transformational power of connection through fitness and community to drive recovery and live life. The Phoenix operates in 44 cities across 26 states. Since 2006 the Phoenix has grown over 38K members. The Phoenix was founded by Scott Strode who wanted to create a community that was safe, sober and active with peers who support each other every day on the journey of recovery.
The Phoenix’s approach to recovery fosters healing through fitness and personal connection. The Phoenix offers activities for everyone, weightlifting, functional fitness, yoga, meditation, boxing, rock climbing, run clubs, mountain biking and more. All these activities are designed to help people grow stronger together, to overcome the stigma of addiction and to rise to their full potential. Check out The Phoenix’s website HERE.
The program operates nationally and also operates locally out of numerous CrossFit gym’s and other fitness facilities in our area. Kate Lutgen, one of our newest coaching additions will be leading this class and running the program here at COL on the first Sunday of every month. Kate has been apart of leading the Phoenix program here in Minneapolis for the last year and we are very blessed and lucky to have her now bringing this amazing program to our gym to continuously help others along any part of their journey overcoming addiction.
The only requirement for becoming a member of the Phoenix is 48 hours of sobriety. Family, friends and allies are all welcome, no previous CrossFit experience is needed and you do not need to be a member of CrossFit City of Lakes to attend a Phoenix workout.
